Taking inspiration from the familiar image of the traditional Greek courtyard, the project AVLI proposes a contemporary approach to hospitality, bringing the qualities of the Greek outdoor living space to the forefront of the guest experience.
The shade of the olive tree, the water, a large communal dining table, an outdoor kitchen, and the scents of aromatic plants come together to create a space that transcends the conventional notion of a hotel room. The experience of staying extends outdoors, transforming the courtyard into a place for gathering, relaxation, and everyday shared living.
The rooms are arranged around the perimeter of the courtyard, while the communal spaces open towards its centre, strengthening the connection with the outdoors.
Enclosing walls define its boundaries, separating it from the outside world and creating an intimate, sheltered environment where guests can retreat and unwind.
The balance between togetherness and solitude, openness and privacy, is never prescribed, but left to the guest’s own choice.
When left open, the rooms’ sliding windows dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside. The living experience thus extends into the courtyard, offering the sensation of sleeping outdoors while remaining within the safety and privacy of an enclosed space.
At AVLI, luxury does not stem from abundance, but from the careful control of the conditions that shape the experience. It lies in the ability to regulate views, light, privacy, and exposure, while allowing guests to find their own rhythm within the space.
